Dress Code

The Rockdale County Public School system has a district-wide dress code. The complete text of this code can be found in the Rockdale County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct and Discipline. The purpose of the dress code is to restrict styles of dress which create a disruption or interference with classroom activities. The Rockdale Open Campus student dress code also includes these provisions:

1.     No rips, holes, or cuts in clothing above the knee.

2.     Clothing must cover undergarments. Undergarments should not be visible. The outer clothing should not be transparent to reveal the undergarment.

3.     Pants and shorts should not be worn well-below the student’s waist, in such a way that their undergarments are revealed.

4.     The student’s torso, including the midriff area, must be covered at all times.

5.     Shoes must be worn at all times. Flip-flops, slides or slippers are not allowed. Closed toe shoes are preferred to promote safety. Sandals may be worn with a back strap.

6.     No form-fitting pants, body suits, leotards or pajamas. Leggings or jeggings may not be worn without a skirt or shirt that is fingertip length or longer.

7.     Students may wear shorts, skorts, or skirts as long as they are fingertip length longer.

8.     Female students should refrain from wearing any t-shirt, blouse or top that reveals undergarments or excessive cleavage.

9.     Tops must cover the shoulder (no off-the-shoulder sweaters or sweatshirts, spaghetti straps or tank tops). Boys may not wear tank tops or sleeveless shirts.

10.    Hats, doo-rags, bonnets, bandanas, and head scarves of any kind are not acceptable during school hours.

11.    Apparel which advertises, promotes, or displays gang affiliation, illegal substances, (alcohol, drugs, tobacco products, etc.), illegal activities, or alcohol establishments, profanity, sexual innuendos, or double meanings are not acceptable.

12.    Students with dress code violations will be asked to call home for a change of clothing to be brought to the school on the first occasion. Repeat offenders will be dealt with individually by an administrator using the consequences outlined in the RCPS Parent Handbook which includes in-school and potential out-of-school suspension.
